1991 Steve Potts Cross Country Racer CCR Vintage Mountain Bike

This Cross Country Racer (CCR) mountain bike was built by Steve Potts when he was located in Mill Valley, California. It was originally sold by Point Reyes Bikes, the iconic West Marin bike shop, started by Michael Castelli and his friend Marshall. The bike was sold to a guy called Jack who bought it for his wife. And she barely put 4-miles on it. The bike is in very good condition.

A custom paint job was applied to the frame and fork by Caroline James of Cycledelix also in Mill Valley, in a gorgeous green color scheme called, Tamoflage. Pine boughs and leaves from Mount Tamalpais in Marin County were used to create the patterns. Caroline painted a lot of bikes, including, Paul Brown’s show bike for “The Art of the Mountain Bike” show in 1989. She was married briefly to Gary Fisher and designed one of the early Gary Fisher catalogs for Trek.

The bike has a Suntour XC Pro and Shimano Deore XT groupset, and features some nice parts, of note is the WTB front brake cable hanger, WTB / King Grease Guard headset, WTB Grease Guard hubs, Ibis titanium stem, and matching handlebar and an IRD Seatpost. The Panaracer Timbuk II tires are new, though, the last batch Panaracer were willing to ever make. They used their original mold to make them.

The ride is fast! I do need to replace the Ibis bars with wider ones.
